David Carson, President / Prime Owner
Mr. Carson has over 28 years of experience as the Company President. He and his wife, Rosemary, started Gemstar in 1983 utilizing Rosemary’s office management skills and David’s 10 years in property-related positions as an Insurance Adjuster, District Property Manager and Construction Salesman. His bold entrepreneurial spirit combined with years of practical experience have built a company with a reputation for producing excellence, service and value in an ever-changing market.
Winston Payne, Executive Vice President / Co-Owner
Mr. Payne has over 24 years of experience as Executive Vice President and Co-Owner of Gemstar. He joined the young company in 1987 with 12 years of progressive experience in Construction Management in a broad range of positions. His personal drive, strong management skills and attention to detail have helped Gemstar develop into a company known for its ability to complete quality projects on time and within budget. Mr. Payne has been a driving force in the development of time and cost – saving procedures for the way the company manages construction projects.
Ben Miller, C.A.S. General Manager
Benjamin earned his BA from New York University in 2007, and came to Gemstar in 2009 as an estimator. He is an active member of the Houston Apartment Association having written for their monthly publication, Abode Magazine. He has also earned the professional designation of Certified Apartment Supplier (CAS) from the National Apartment Association (NAA). He recently became the qualifying agent representing Gemstar for the Florida Contractors license. In the near future, he plans on obtaining several more states to expand Gemstar’s reach throughout the United States. In 2015, Ben was promoted to General Manager where he oversees the general day-to-day operations of the company. With a large amount of estimating experience under his belt, he is always available for consults on large, complex and difficult projects for all of our valued Gemstar clients.
Casey Carson, C.A.S. Sales
Casey joined the Gemstar team in 1997 after graduating from Stephen F. Austin State University. His experience and knowledge of the industry have developed him to become a strong asset to our team. He is an active member and frequent volunteer within the Houston Apartment Association (HAA). Casey has earned the designation of Certified Apartment Supplier (CAS) through the National Association (NAA).
Brian Acome, Sales
Brian Acome joined Gemstar Construction in 2004 as a Salesman/Project Manager. His experience includes selling and managing state and federally funded whole-property rehabs (up to $10M) for non-profit development groups and tax credit investors. His diverse 28-year career includes Sales and Estimating for a Commercial Drywall Company; working for a local Servpro Restoration franchise as a Salesman and Project Manager; and handling large-loss insurance claims using Xactimate estimating software for a Disaster Recovery and Engineering/Construction Management firm in the National Market. Brian is active in the Houston, San Antonio, and Texas Apartment Associations.
Neal Conant, Sales
Neal joined the Gemstar sales team in 2014. He has been in the Multi-Family industry for over 20 years with the Sherwin Williams Paint Company. An encyclopedic knowledge of paint products and their applications is a valuable resource he brings to the team. At Gemstar, he focuses on new client development and outreach. He strives to be a dedicated partner in adding value to his clients’ assets while providing exceptional high quality service. With a long history in the Houston Apartment Association, his outstanding reputation precedes him. In the near future, he will receive his Certified Apartment Supplier designation and is an active member in the HAA Chili Committee. Texas proud, Neal is a recent graduate of the University of Houston Downtown – Go Coogs!
Ryan Campbell, Director of Pre-Construction Services
Ryan began his career at Gemstar in 2014 as a member of our Pre-Construction Services department. He attended Texas A&M and was a member of the prestigious Corp of Cadets. Gig’em, Aggies! Before joining Gemstar, Ryan was a lead sales manager for one of the top residential roofing companies in the nation where he garnered extensive roofing knowledge. During his tenure, he received his insurance adjuster’s certificate and became well versed at the disaster recovery estimating software Xactimate. His strong motivation, attention to detail and desire to learn make him a good fit for the Multi-Family reconstruction industry. In the near future, he will be receiving his HAAG roofing certification and Certified Apartment Supplier designation with the Houston Apartment Association. In 2016 Ryan was promoted to Director of Preconstruction Services where he and his team hammer out the details that take our clients’ needs and ideas from bids and proposals to production-ready projects.
Eric Muller, Pre-Construction Services Estimator
Eric joined the Gemstar family in 2014 as a member of our Pre-Construction Services department. Originally from New York, he is U.S. Army veteran. His dedication and commitment led him to a distinguished 6 years serving his country. Twelve months of his service was spent with a tour in Afghanistan supporting active combat operations as a helicopter crew chief and mechanic. His military experience prepared him well for the fast pace of multi-family estimating. As an estimator, he focuses on quality control and fast estimate turn around. Eric’s technical expertise, ability to adapt and mechanical know how make him adept to a career in the reconstruction and restoration industry.
